About

The Monroe County Farm Bureau Foundation was established in 1995 to provide members and local communities with a means to support agricultural education and careers.  The Foundation is led by the Vice President and Secretary from the board, a past board member, two past scholarship recipients, a Women’s Committee member, and a Young Leader Committee member.

The Foundation Continues to:

  • Provide scholarships for students studying agriculture and related fields.

  • Distribute educational and instructional materials about agriculture.

  • Promote and fund education and research designed to improve agriculture.

  • Promote and conduct seminars for educational leadership purposes in the field of agriculture

Scholarships and Grants

The objective of our Foundation’s Scholarship program is to provide scholarships to college students who major in agriculture, agri-business, or an ag-related course of study. The number and dollar amount of scholarships awarded will vary depending on the number of applications received and the availability of funds.

Scholarship applications are available before January 1st each year and have a February 1st deadline. Scholarship recipients must be members, or dependents of Farm Bureau members (in good standing for at least 1 year), going into the study of agriculture or a related field.

Scholarship applications are available around April 1st each year and have a June 1st deadline. Scholarship recipients must be members, or dependents of Farm Bureau members (in good standing for at least 1 year), going into the study of agriculture or a related field.

Jonah K. Matthews Memorial Scholarship and Grants

Scholarship: Applications are available before January 1st each year and have a February 1st deadline. Scholarship recipients must be members, or dependents of Farm Bureau members (in good standing for at least 1 year). To receive this scholarship, students must also fill out the Monroe County Farm Bureau Foundation Scholarship application. Fill this application out if you are pursuing a degree in production agriculture or animal science.

The Monroe County Farm Bureau Young Leaders Committee lost one of our own in a tragic accident June 14, 2019. Jonah Matthews was dearly loved and is missed by all. In his honor, the Monroe County Young Leader’s Committee established the Jonah K. Matthews Memorial Scholarship Fund to reward young people who share his passion for agriculture.

FFA Jacket Grant: Applications become available at the beginning of the school year in August and are due on September 15th. Applicants must be in the 9th grade at a Monroe County school or be a Monroe County resident and enrolled in FFA during the current academic year. This grant covers the cost of an FFA Jacket and a tie or scarf.

SAE/Ag Science Grant: Applications become available at the beginning of the school year in August and are due on September 15th. Applicants must be 2nd year FFA members at a Monroe County school or be a Monroe County resident and enrolled in FFA during the current academic year. This grant covers the expense of materials, ranging from $50 to $150, needed to complete a successful SAE project or an Ag Science Project.
